David was raised in Pampa, where he attended school and later fell in love with his neighbor. He and Cecelia Gail McDonald were married on April 3, 1965, in Pampa, and that marriage lasted for a wonderful fifty-seven ½ years.

David enlisted in the United States Army, where he learned to drive tanks and he was eventually stationed in Munich, Germany, where he and Cely started their family.

After returning stateside, their journey eventually led them back to Ardmore in 1972. David started working at Uniroyal Tire Company a few years later and would eventually retire from Michelin Tire Company after 32 years of employment. Retirement was not for him, so he took jobs at Plainview Schools, Mercy Hospital, The Lodge and lastly the First Presbyterian Church, where he worked alongside his lovely wife. He loved everyone he worked with and made friends everywhere he worked.

David had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1973, where he had served as a Trustee, Elder and a Deacon during various times. He loved to fish, camp (especially in Red River, New Mexico), play in numerous casinos, watch anything involving the Oklahoma Sooners, and more than anything, watch and attend EVERYTHING involving his family members.

David was a hugger, and everyone will miss his hugs, especially his family. Those left to cherish him are his wife, Cely; a son, Tommy Campbell and Debe’, and their family, Anna, Kahli, Dalton and Toby; a son, Tracy “Tank” Campbell and Courtney, and their family, Devnee, Chris, Ella, Raeleigh, Braylynn, Alexis, Delano, Destin, Tommi Lee, Geoff, Zane “Deuce”, Knox, Kayla, John, Sutton, Beckham, Kenzi, Channing, Swayze, Clayton, Amy and Harper; bonus-mother, Mary Campbell; brothers, Gary Campbell and Kathy, Jimmy Campbell and Marty, Hugh Campbell and Elda; bonus-sister, Judy Callantine; sister-in-law, Teresa Strickland; special nieces and nephews, Neysha, Buddy and their children; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

David was preceded in death by his father, Max Campbell; his mother, Ellen Campbell; a great-grandson, Alexander Xavier; a bonus-brother, Jimmy Seiber; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Ywachetta McDonald; brother-in-law, Tommy McDonald; sister and brother-in-law, Sheila, and Jim Brown; and nephew, Jason Strickland.

David’s funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 21, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ardmore with Rev. Mary Ellen Waychoff officiating and Lawrence Anderson assisting. Interment with military honors will follow at the Seaman First Class Billy Turner Oklahoma State Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore. A time of visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, October 20, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, 100 East Main, Marietta.

Casket bearers will be Lawrence Anderson, Frank Lornes, Rick Mayo, Brian McGahey, John Randles and Blake Rudd. Honorary casket bearers will be Craig King, Kenneth Steward, Rex Conway, Ray Goyne, Phil Hall, Rodney Elmore, Allen McMurtrey, Joe Pat Hughes, Rhett Latham, and the First Presbyterian Church family.

Services

David’s funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 21, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ardmore with Rev. Mary Ellen Waychoff officiating and Lawrence Anderson assisting. 

Interment with military honors will follow at the Seaman First Class Billy Turner Oklahoma State Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
