Vicki Roper Obituary (died July 19, 2021)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vicki Roper (Humble, Texas), who passed away on July 19, 2021, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Visitation for both Kerry and Vicki will be held on Tuesday, July 27th 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Rosewood Funeral Home (2602 S Houston Ave, Humble, TX 77396). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 28th 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Second Baptist Church (22770 Hwy 59 N., Kingwood, TX 77339).

Memorial Service for Kerry and Vicki Roper, July 28, 2021

Kerry Guy Roper, 74, of Kingwood, Texas, went to be with our Lord July 21, 2021.

Kerry was born October 7, 1946, in Amarillo, Texas, to Vernon and Billye Roper. Kerry grew up in Pampa, Texas graduating from Pampa High School in 1965. He attended North Texas State University on a full basketball scholarship. After one year, he transferred to Dallas Baptist where he continued to play basketball and met his bride, Vicki.

Vicki Denise German Roper, 73, of Kingwood, Texas, went to be with our Lord on July 19, 2021.

Vicki was born June 9, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Searcy and Eleanor German. Vicki grew up in Houston, graduating from M. B. Smiley High School in 1966. She attended Dallas Baptist University where she was a cheerleader and met the love of her life, Kerry.

Kerry and Vicki were engaged on December 23, 1966 and married July 15, 1967. Together, they moved to Houston where Kerry attended Houston Baptist University, continuing to play basketball.

Throughout the 54-year marriage:

          Kerry graduated from Houston Baptist and started his career in the tax business as a Tax Accessor Collector for Aldine ISD. He then worked as the Houston Manager for Property Tax Service. Upon leaving PTS, Kerry started his own company, AVTAX, as President and owner, with partners Paul Hawn and Charlie Pennington. Kerry was a deacon at Forest Cove Baptist Church and helped with children’s Bible study classes. Kerry enjoyed barbecuing, growing tomatoes, and making his famous hot sauce.

          Vicki worked for Harris County tax office and attended night school. She then worked pat time for Humble ISD tax office, and Forest Cove Baptist Church. Vicki’s sole ambition was to be an artist, get married, and have a family. The highlight of their life was realized when Rise’ was born. She started Pastor of Care ministry at Forest Cove Baptist Church which included small groups, premarital counseling, and intercessory prayer. She taught Sunday school classes and many Bible studies, including Joy of Living. Vicki was a leader of the Stephen Ministries. She also enjoyed gardening and was involved with Kingwood Garden Club.

          Kerry and Vicki were members of Empty Nesters’ Bible Study class at Second Baptist Church, North Campus. Together they enjoyed entertaining their friends and family and sharing their love for the Lord.

They were preceded in death by Kerry’s parents Vernon and Billye Roper and Vicki’s parents Searcy and Eleanor German. Survivors include their daughter Rise’ Jones and husband Glen, grandchildren Chase Vaughan and Eleanor Jones, Kerry’s sister Debby Leake and husband Pierce Jr., brother Randy Rober and wife Fay; Vicki’s brothers Johnnie German and wife Robyn, and Rick German and wife Barbara, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mmeorial Service was held at the Second Baptist Church under the direction of Dr. H. Edwin Young, Pastor. Kerry’s death was from complications of MS and Vicki’s death was from cancer.
