Larry Hollis (1946-2021)
Larry Hollis, class of 1965, passed away Saturday, February 6. He did not want any services.
His sister Shirley Hollis Evans said, "COPD was a big part of it, also had non-COVID-19 pneumonia which were all causing breathing issues. Larry also had heart disease."
Larry Dell Hollis (November 19, 1946 - February 6, 2021)
Larry was born and raised in Pampa, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bea Hollis, and his sister, Sandra Jean Hollis Vazquez. He is survived by brothers Bennie Hollis and wife Ellen of Lufkin, Russell Hollis and wife Linda of Pampa, and sister Shirley Hollis Evans of Johnson City, Texas. He deeply loved his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, his great-great nieces and nephews and his many cousins. Larry was married to Mitzi Sharp for 10 years and continued a deep friendship with her.
He went to Horace Mann Elementary, Robert E. Lee Jr. High, and Pampa High School graduating in 1965. In high school he served on the staff of the school newspaper, “The Little Harvester” for 3 years, and was also involved in Red Cross, Q & S, FTA, Tri-Sci, Prairie Gold, National Honor Society, and Key Club.
Larry attended Texas Tech University for 2.5 years, then joined the Army. He served 2 years and was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany for the majority of his service. He received his BS degree from West Texas State University in English and Journalism.
He worked at the Pampa Daily News for many, many years in several positions. He won several journalism awards while working there. Larry left the newspaper and moved to the Austin area where he was employed by Pearson company until his death.
Larry's wishes were to be cremated without any funeral services.
