Bobby Helton (1945-2024)
A flashback … I remember when we were planning our 50th high school reunion that I was asking Wanda Helton (Cook) if they were going to be at our reunion. She said that year she and Bob were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. (I think on a cruise to Alaska.)
Today I learned that Bob Helton died. I’m sorry to learn this. Here is Bob’s Obituary:

Bobby D. Helton (aka Rufus R. Jones, Esquire III) went home to be with our Lord & Savior Friday, August 16, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on July 15, 1945 to Forrest John Helton & Opal Kate Hudson in Amarillo, Tx.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers & 5 sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memory – his wife, Wanda Helton, his daughter Shelly Helton Holcomb and husband Wesley Holcomb (Amarillo, Tx), his daughter Shanna Helton Warren and husband Dustin Warren (Lucas, Tx), his grandchildren Karlee Holcomb, Ian Warren, & Andrew Holcomb, his sister Pamuella Maxey Williams (Brady, Tx), his brother Warren Maxey (Colorado) and many other family members & loyal friends.
He graduated from Pampa High School in May 1965 and was married to his “brand new bride” & high school sweetheart, Wanda Cook Helton, for 59 years. Together they loved road trips to the mountains where they would camp, fish and enjoy God’s creation while raising their daughters.
He loved teaching his two daughters, “Bo Bear” (Shelly) & “The Dude” (Shanna), how to be independent women who love the Lord fiercely but Bobby’s motto for his girls was “anything boys can do, girls can do better!”
He was a devoted man of God and loved his family & friends dearly. He had a servant’s heart & held many different positions in various church’s over the years.
His pride and joy was his grandchildren, Karlee Holcomb (21), Ian Warren (20) & Andrew Holcomb (16). He was proud to teach them how to shoot guns, happy to carry their clubs for 18 holes, sit shotgun in the golf cart while they learned to drive & cheer them on from the football & baseball stands. He adored his two favorite son in laws Wes and Dustin.
He was passionate about his service to the United States Army during the Vietnam War & grateful for any military person’s service to our amazing country.
After serving our country, he worked as a Chemist for Southwestern Portland Cement Company for 19 years at which time the company closed. In 2010, he retired from the Bureau of Land Management Helium Operations after 23 years of service where he did “hard word with severe dedication”.
While he will be greatly missed, we are thankful for the promise and hope we have in Jesus Christ for everlasting life. In lieu flowers, donations can to be sent to Trinity Baptist Church – Missions in honor of Bobby D Helton.
