Dannie Ray Miller (1946-2019)

Dannie Ray Miller, 72, of Pampa, passed away June 24, 2019 in Amarillo.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 28, 2019, at Briarwood Church, with Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor and Rev. Steve “Watty” Watson, executive pastor of Genesis Church, in McKinney.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Dannie was born October 7, 1946 in Pampa to Cora and Ambrose Miller.  He was raised on the Emmett Lefors Ranch where he attended Pampa schools and graduated in the Class of 1965.  After high school, Dannie entered in the U. S. Army where he proudly served in the Vietnam War with 11 Bravo as an infantryman, where he earned a Purple Heart.

After his honorable discharge, he returned to Pampa where he met the love of his life, Terry Davis, and they wed in 1971 in Pampa.  Dannie worked in the flooring business for several years, later owning and operating Fashion Floors.  He was an entrepreneur at heart where he owned several businesses in Pampa which included car lots and radio stations.  After running his businesses, he later went to work for Cabot where he eventually retired. After retirement, one of the greatest joys of Dannie’s life was watching after his grandsons and attending all of their sporting events and taking pride in the fact that he attended all their games!

Dannie was a longtime and faithful member of Briarwood Church since 1993, where he served in various rolls which included, elder, deacon, usher, greeter and prayer warrior.

He loved the outdoors where he camped and rode motorcycles.   He was a longtime and dedicated member of the V.F.W. Post #1657 where he served as district chaplain for district nine.  The three things that mattered most to Dannie was God, family and country. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Terry Miller of the home; a daughter, Katie Kidd and husband Brandon of Pampa; two sons, Dustin Dan Miller of Amarillo, and Curtis Ray Miller; seven grandchildren, Braden Kidd, Tayte Kidd, Karter Kidd, Bryant Kidd, McKinley Miller, Maddox Miller and Dylan Miller; twelve nieces and nephews, Jera, Austin, Bailey, Chris, Toni, Melissa, Larry, Tammy, Molly, Emily, Walter, and Cody; two sisters-in-law, Ruthie Alexander and husband Bill of Pampa, and Shannon Williams and husband J. D. of Amarillo; brother-in-law, Dorman Hall of Hobbs, New Mexico; special cousin, Gloria Brown of Pampa;  and a host of other extended family. Dannie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rodney Glenn Miller; a sister, Dorothy Hall; and a brother, Randy Dale Miller.

Memorials may be made to Briarwood Church, 1800 W. Harvester, Pampa, Texas 79065; or VFW Post 1657, Pampa, Texas 79066-1657.
